Learn to design with AI, one real part at a time
CAD AI Project is a small, practice-first programme run by Ruggert Machines for early-career mechanical engineers. We take ordinary parts — brackets, housings, shafts — and work out where AI tools actually save time in design, and where they quietly get things wrong.
- Extrude base, 180 × 100 × 12
- Hole pattern, 4 × Ø11
- Extrude flange, R60 top, 14
- Bore Ø52 H7, 4 × Ø9 on Ø92
- Extrude hub, Ø76 × 24
- Ribs, 2 × 10
- Check mass: 3.42 kg, S235JR
What we work on
Sketch to parametric model
Turning a hand sketch or a photo of a part into a clean, editable CAD model — and checking every constraint the assistant invented.
Tolerances and fits
Using language models to draft tolerance stack-ups, then verifying them by hand. The goal is speed without trusting a number you haven't checked.
Drawings and reviews
Generating first-pass drawings, BOMs and design-review checklists from a model, and learning what a senior engineer still has to look at.
How a cohort runs
- Pick a partEach participant brings a real part from work or study. Confidential parts stay on your machine.
- Model it twiceOnce the usual way, once with AI assistance. We log time, errors and rework for both.
- Check the mathsTolerance stack-ups, fits and load cases are verified by hand and in peer review.
- Write it upEvery participant publishes a short field note: what worked, what didn't, and why.
